Rub your titties if you love hip hop

In the past, Hoops have been asked if they were aware of the irony of 3 girls jumping around to hip hop that is by and large, rather degrading to women. To Me, Nina and Ez, the hip hop we play is all approached with a sense of humour. The themes in Hip hop in general are sex, partying and money. That goes for rappers of both sexes, Missy, Lil’ Kim, Trina… even Amanda Blank and Yo Majesty write alot about sex. Its goes both ways and by and large it’s all in good fun.

One of my favourite rappers right now is this kid from Canada called Drake who is kind of killing it. His songs are so damn infectious and the rhymes are funny- so catchy that before you even realize whats going on your driving around in your car yelling max volume lyrics like “I just want to fuck every girl in the world”. Disliking it is pretty hard.

Recently Kanye directed a video for his hit single “Best I ever had”. I can’t help but be a little disappointed with this video. Its not like I’m so bothered by the girls being sexually objectified, its certainly not like it would be the first time. And I get it, the video is supposed to be funny, but the song just doesn’t seem to go with the video. Even though I don’t find the video that offensive, I also don’t find it funny or that engaging. It’s like the ideas behind it weren’t fully developed or something. Bummer.

p.s Drake was also in Degrassi Next Generation eh!
